What is the Invisalign Treatment Process Like?

If you’re dealing with misaligned teeth or even jaw alignment issues, the great news is that you don’t need to wear braces to get a straight smile and a healthy bite.

Invisalign is a revolutionary orthodontic treatment that can improve the position of your teeth discreetly. The clear aligners are basically unnoticeable and a lot more comfortable than traditional braces.

If you’re interested in Invisalign and want to learn more about the process, keep reading this short blog post.

The 5 Steps of Invisalign Treatment

Invisalign involves wearing a set of clear aligners that apply pressure to your teeth and slowly move them to a more optimal position. For the treatment to work, you will need to wear your traces for at least 20-22 hours every day.

Here’s how the treatment process works:

1. Your Appointment with your dentist

Our Wilmington dentist will check your teeth position, jaw alignment, and listen to your desired outcomes. Then, they will determine if Invisalign is the appropriate treatment for you or if you need an alternative orthodontic treatment.

If you are a good candidate for Invisalign, you can move on to stage two:

2. Digital Molding

Your dentist will take digital scans of your teeth to create an accurate model. These scans are sent to a lab, where the Invisalign aligners are made especially for you.

Throughout your treatment, you’ll need to wear multiple sets. The number depends on your specific alignment issues.

3. Tray Pick-up

Once the trays are ready, you can come back to the office and pick them up. First, you’ll test the trays to see if they fit or if they should be sent back for modifications.

If they’re a match, then you’ll leave the office wearing the aligners. Your first day of treatment will officially start.

4. Follow-up

Throughout your treatment, you’ll see your dentist regularly so he can check on your progress and provide your new aligners when necessary.

The frequency depends on how well your teeth respond to the treatment.

5. Retainers

Once you finish your Invisalign treatment, your teeth will be straight and your bite will be healthy. But to make sure they stay that way, you’ll need to wear a retainer for the rest of your life. Otherwise, the teeth can move back to their original position.

The retainers are similar to Invisalign trays and are custom-made for your teeth. But you’ll only have to wear them at night. You’ll wear them every night for the first year at least, and then you can reduce it to every 3-5 nights.
